Keynote Presentation
Arts in Education Portal Day
On November 11th I delivered the keynote at ‘Arts in Education Portal Day’ in Limerick, Ireland. This annual event brings together members of the arts in education community from across Ireland. The conference focus was ‘Seldom Heard Voices’ and included a rich mix of presentations, workshops and discussions on this theme.
In my presentation I reflected on the idea of ‘space’ - both physical and psychological- from my differing perspectives as teacher, artist and researcher. I spoke about our need for spaces to dream, to listen, to collaborate and simply to 'be' together, and asked questions about the types of spaces we provide and inhabit in our practices. Having the opportunity to reflect upon the notion of space as a theme that unites my work in different areas was really valuable and it was a day full of learning and connection.

Ireland has a strong tradition of Teacher Artist partnerships and I recommend the Arts in Education Portal as a great digital resource that shares videos, blogs, research reports and critical essays about working with the arts in schools.
